Interesting.  I think what you may have seen is the legendary 'Gumwallawalla' - literally translated as 'The Chicken of Death'.  The little-known Nam-Po-Po tribe of Indonesia believe that the chicken is both a symbol of impending doom and a spirit guide who arrives to take recently departed souls to that great chicken coop in the sky.

The key to interpreting the vision is to note the position of the Staff of Kumballah - a magic bronze rod which the chicken carries at all times.   Think carefully: was it tucked under the left or the right wing?
